BUDDHAS BOWL – WOMADELAIDE March 7-9, 2008

Sunday, 02 March 2008 18:00

Buddhas Bowl (around 2000)Hello all, where did that year go?  Time again to start planning our major fundraising event.  I am counting on all previous volunteers (and hopefully lots of new ones) to sign up and ensure the stall's success.  Put it in your diary, book some time off work, use up some sick leave whatever you have to do to be there and join the fun.  Due to the enormous growth of the stall, this year veg chop will be held over 2 days - Wed and Thurs leaving Fri for preparing the stall for service.

If you are new to Buddha House, Buddha's Bowl has been selling great value vegetarian food at WOMAD since it's beginning and we have a huge following serving approx 2000+ meals.  Buddha's Bowl is our principal fund raiser and is completely staffed by volunteers.  We can raise in 3 days what would take a year of many smaller events to achieve So we ask that everyone put in whatever time they possibly can for the event.  It's a great fun atmosphere and a unique opportunity to meet and chat with other BH students.

Volunteers are required over a 6 day period

Wed 5th -  Vege chop - basic food preparation at Geshels'a house.  A fun day with lunch supplied, lots of chat and chop.  Bring your favourite knife and board and someone suggested a snorkel for all those onions!  This is not just women's work we need some guys for helping with buckets to the cool rooms and setting up the burners and pots for the beans.

  • Thurs 6th  - Vegetable chop, as above.
  • Friday 7th - Transporting all the gear to the site and setting up, men needed, and then serving in the evening.
  • Saturday 8th - Cook and serve
  • Sunday 9th - Cook and serve   Late evening - packing up the stall, (guys again)
  • Monday 10th  Storage of all equipment back into shed at Geshela's

In early February rosters will be pinned up in BH.  Please write your name and phone number on the time you are available to work.  Typically Thurs / Friday shifts are harder to fill so if you have a flexi-day up your sleeve and can help us out please do.  If you can't get in to BH to put you name on the roster you can call the office and leave your details

PLEASE NOTE. Tickets are supplied but only for the duration of your shift on the stall.  We are only supplied with enough tickets for each shift and they must be scanned out before the next shift can come in.  If you plan to stay for the music you will need to purchase your own ticket.

There will be a Buddha's Bowl meeting at the BH on Sat Jan 26th at 2pm to allocate primary roles, chai chief,  dishwashing team,  chefs, roster co ordinator, stall supervisor, stock ordering etc.  Please put this date in your diary.  These are not huge commitments it's only a few days out of our year with a couple of weeks coordinating prior to the event.   If you have ever thought about giving back to BH with some service but were not sure what to do, come along to this informal meeting.

See you all soon,
Carole Migalka
