What's On?


Learn simple and reliable methods of finding peace and meaning through meditation. Classes held 6 pm Mondays & Tuesdays.

meditation & morning tea9 am mindfulness of the breath, followed by a guided meditation on a Graduated Path topic. This event has been scheduled at Buddha House for over 20 years!. Led by experienced students. All welcome. Facility Fee: waged $8, concession & members $5. 

Followed by Morning Tea! 10 am -  All welcome. 





 

Wednesdays 10:15 am. The format may vary depending on the group leader, but usually the session consists of some mindfulness meditation, followed by a traditional buddhist analysis or visualisation - same as the Sunday morning meditation. Facility Fee: waged $8, concession & members $5.

Use visualisations of the Buddha or an aspect of the Buddha in order to create the causes for our own enlightenment, and we recite mantras, prescribed syllables, to protect the mind from our attachment, anger, ignorance and so forth. While we recite the mantra, we think and visualize in a beneficial way to develop constructive habits in the mind. During the month we rotate between different deity practices - Chenrezig, Medicine Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, Tara.



living dharma thmbMondays 7:15 pm - Student-led discussion group for people wanting to live the Dharma every day in their working, family and student lives. The Dharma  offers creative approaches for transforming mundane and painful situations into times of greater contentment. Open, lively discussion is part of the evening.



Gentle Yoga for Meditators - Wednesday 9 am. Yoga at Buddha House is suitable for everyone. Physically gentle and slow, it focuses on the practise of mindfulness. Structured, fully guided breathing practices relax the mind and rejuvenate the body. No strain is required: just let it happen rather than make it happen. This classically inspired, yet contemporary yoga approach offers the an opportunity to nurture oneself through mindful, gentle movement.

As part of its involvement with the wider community, Buddha House offers the services of an experienced, registered teacher to facilitate visits by school, university, youth and community groups. For those who wish to know about Buddhism for educational or informational purposes, a program to meet your requirements can be arranged. 
 
We can also assist individual students with their assignments by computer.

Venerable Tenzin Chodron at Buddha House, 1-3 June 2012

Chodron sm  

Venerable Tenzin Chodron is a Buddhist nun in the Tibetan tradition who has studied Buddhist philosophy at Chenrezig Institute in Queensland for 12 years. During this time she has worked with Karuna Hospice Service, offering Spiritual Care to those preparing for the end of life. In addition, Chodron has many years’ experience as a social worker, counsellor, group facilitator and presenter.

5th Annual 10 Day Lam-rim Meditation Retreat

 Dondrub

With Venerable Thubten Dondrub

Kangaroo Island,

October 7th – October 17th 2012 

A monk for over 30 years, Venerable Dondrub is one of FPMT’s senior western teachers. He has led many of the famous one month Lam-rim courses at Kopan in Nepal. His guided meditations on the Lam-Rim (the graduated path to enlightenment) are powerful catalysts to bring about deep, effective change in our hearts and lives. De-Tong Ling is an FPMT national retreat centre on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. Set within 1300 hectares of wilderness, it offers abundant silence, pure water and air, with long views out to sea. October is a time of wildflowers and mild weather. Accommodation ranges from under canvas to four star. NB – This 10 day retreat fulfils the retreat requirement of Module 14 of the ‘Discovering Buddhism’ course.

Eco Awareness Group

The ECO Awareness Group was started in 2011 as an initiative in response to H.H. the Dalai Lama’s request for a global approach of Universal Responsiblity to the problems of comtemporary life and the environment, the Eco Awareness Group at BH sponsors talks by knowledgeable professions in areas of environmental and humanitarian concern.  From global warming to live export, rainforest and habitat destruction or fair trade purchasing, by keeping informed of these issues, each one of us can contribute responsibly to the future of our world. As ethics lie at the heart of our path, it is urgent that we respond in living with less apathy and greed and instead, with eyes wide open.
