A Christmas Retreat with Ven. Jamyang & Jampa Gendun "This is the week of Holy Jesus’ birth, and I suggest that in honour of this special event we make some sort of celebration. But we should try to make it meaningful. It should not be some sort of physical sensation, bringing only more confusion and superstition to our minds.
For a Christmas celebration to be a good one, it must be of a truly religious nature. Jesus came to this Earth and presented his teachings, but worldly beings completely disregard this fact. For them Christmas means—first and foremost—shopping, spending money, buying presents and creating confusion. Such confusion is entirely of our own making. We have the power to make Christmas meaningful, peaceful and truly religious…" Paradoxically, the very time of year when the majority of the world is coming together to celebrate peace on earth is for many the most stressful and lonely period of all. Why not give yourself a real Christmas present this year and make your holidays truly meaningful: spend a few days caring for your mind, making it peaceful and connecting with some of the feelings that Christmas is meant to be about. Each of these days of retreat will consist of various simple meditations suitable for everyone including mindfulness, loving-kindness, forgiveness, etc., along with group discussions, and time to read and have a cup of tea with others in a relaxed and nourishing atmosphere. You’re welcome to come along to one, two or all three days. Whatever fits into your schedule. However, you must register by Wednesday, Dec. 12th. To do so, simply ring the Buddha House office.
Thursday, Friday. & Saturday, December 27th - 29th, 9 am - 4 pm |
