Buddha House is affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT
). Easter Retreat: The Heart Sutra |
Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd, Sunday 24th April 9am – 5pm daily. Buddha House is most fortunate to have Jampa Ignyen return to teach and lead this in-house retreat. "The Heart Sutra" is one of the Buddha's most profound teachings, and it belongs to a series of discourses he gave called the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras. Although this discourse is brief, it contains the very essence or heart of his teachings, for it illuminates the nature of emptiness or ultimate truth, the final mode of abidance of all things. About the teacher:
Periods of silence will enable students to quieten their minds and those who wish to take precepts on day 2 and 3 will be able to do so. It is a rare opportunity to take 3 days of teaching and meditation in our busy lives, so students might want to spend evenings free of usual activities to remain in a semi-retreat state of mind. Precepts are taken Prayer books provided at retreat. The 8 vows taken for the 24 hour period include: not killing, stealing, lying, sex, intoxicants, only eating one meal taken before 12 noon, wearing adornments etc. They will be explained on Day one. Cost The retreat will be fully catered with main meal served before noon for precept takers on day 2 and 3. Students are encouraged to attend all three days to benefit from the retreat experience, however if work prevents this, you may make arrangements with the Buddha House office. Weekend: $210 waged, $180 concession, $150 member. Bookings are essential for catering purposes. Ph: 8333 2824 (Office Hours) |

Jampa Ignyen is highly qualified to teach coming from a background in which he studied at Sera Je monastery in southern India, mastering both Tibetan debating and the intellectual teachings over a period of 15 years. Later, he achieved his PhD in Buddhist Philosophy in Australia and lectured in Melbourne in Asian studies. A great scholar and a wonderfully-warm and accessible teacher, Jampa's profound English explanations have opened many students' minds.
