). Introduction to Buddhism |
|
“Introduction to Buddhism” is for beginning students and will survey the essential points of Buddhism such as the Four Noble Truths, the Three Principal Aspects of the Path, Karma, and so forth. It will consist of talks, meditation and discussions in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with Venerable Jamyang. Everyone is welcome. Highly recommended. Buddhism is a philosophy that offers ways of understanding ourselves and the world around us. Its profound psychology, time-honoured methods of meditation and intricate analysis of the mind are as relevant today as in the time of Shakyamuni Buddha. There is in Buddhism the abiding conviction that basically we are intelligent and caring people but that many of the premises upon which we base our lives are distorted and in conflict with the way things actually are. This disparity between the world as it is and our beliefs about it leads us to inappropriate and unskillful ways of thinking and behaving which form the basis for all the many frustrations, disappointments and dissatisfactions that we continually experience. In response to this, Buddhism offers a penetrating analysis of the condition we find ourselves in, and powerful and proven methods for helping us to work through our problems. The result is an increasing happiness, kindliness and peace in our lives. Classes consist of meditations, talks and discussions.
