Venerable Thubten Gyatso (Dr Adrian Feldmann) is teaching at Buddha House from 31st Jan – 12th Feb 2010. Thubten Gyatso is well known, having over 35 years experience as a Buddhist teacher, in which time he has written two books, and built monasteries and completed a 3 year solitary retreat on Kangaroo Island. Being an Australian himself, he is easy to relate to and understands the way we think, which is reflected in his style of teaching which is often ververy amusing. His program includes public talks and weekend workshops. Buddha House is very pleased to host Gyatso for a ‘mind blowing’ 2 weeks of teaching from a truly inspirational and knowledgeable practitioner. Public Talk: “Making Life Meaningful’Sunday 31st January 3-5pm. Learn how to transform and transcend the problems you face everyday as well as how to develop loving kindness and compassion for yourself andinspire it in your community and the world at large. Facility fee: $15 (waged), $12 (Concession), $10 (BH Member) An evening talk: ‘Mind, its Nature and its Potential’Tuesday 2nd February 7.15pm. Science is only just beginning to understand the extraordinary capacity of the brain to change and develop. The implications for how we learn, work and care for one another are profound. Mind,It’s nature & It’s Potential is your opportunity to learn how the mind functions and how to apply this understanding in all aspects of your life. Facility fee: $15 (waged), $12 (Concession), $10 (BH Member) An evening talk on ‘Desire – give yourself a break’Thursday 4thFebruary 7.15pm. From all accounts this talk is both amusing and mind provoking. Venerable Gyatso will help us to take a good look at attachment, how attachment takes hold and the problems that arise from a grasping mind. Facilityfee: $15 (waged), $12 (Concession), $10 (BH Member) Weekend Workshop: ‘12 Dependent Links of Dependent Arising’Sat 6th and Sunday 7th February, 9am – 4pm. This two day workshop will explore the teachings on Dependent-arising: the process by which beings are bound to the Wheel of Rebirth. This 12-step sequence plays an essential role in the view of all Buddhist schools. If one does not understand cause and effect well, it is extremely difficult to realize that these phenomena are empty of inherent existence due to being dependently arisen. One must develop an understanding of cause and effect -that certain causes help and harm in certain ways. Hence, the Buddha set forth a presentation of dependent-arising in connection with the cause and effect of actions in the process of life in cyclic existence so that penetrating understanding of the process of cause and effect could be gained. Hearing a clear and concise explanation of this important teaching by Venerable Gyatso is an opportunity not to be missed.
Facility fee: $160 (waged), $130 (Concession), $100 (BH Member). Please bring a share vegetarian plate for lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided. Two evening talks on ‘The Path of Altruism’Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th February 7.15pm. Bodhicitta is a key term in Mahayana Buddhism denoting the state of mind of a bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is one who has accomplished all love and compassion. Complete love, complete compassion towards all beings, every sentient beings. No one is excluded. Every sentient being. Always, forever. This inspirational topic will be covered over two evenings.
Facility Fee: $30 (waged), $24(Concession), $20 (BH Member) If you would like to attend all of Venerable Gyatso’s teaching program
