“For as long as space endures
And for as long as living beings remain
Until then may I too abide
To dispel the misery of the world.”
(Shantideva's Bodhisattva Prayer)

Join Venerable Jamyang and the BH community as she explains practical ways to generate the Great Mind of Enlightenment – Bodhicitta.
These classes are suitable for all and can be joined at any time. Faculty Fee: $10 (w), $8 (c), $7 (m)

Block out your Saturday night, Buddha House has a new event!
Saturday evenings fortnightly: 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm
Every fortnight there will be a gathering for young adults, where we will explore how culture shapes our minds, feelings and world view. Drawing on the wisdom of Buddhism we will discuss how to live life more meaningfully; as young people it's often hard to incorporate our spiritual practice into our daily activities and this group will offer the perfect opportunity to share ideas and stories about our own thoughts and experiences.
Cost: $5 entry, gold coin for chai
Program:
May 10 - movie, introductions, getting to know
May 24 - art and mind
June 7 - Buddhism and Western Knowledge
June 21 - storytelling and performance

A series of talks on Friday evenings, presented by western scholars who will explore their work through Buddhist eyes.
The Wheel Of Life
Fridays 7.30 - 9.30 pm May 16, 23, 30; June 6, 27; July 4, 11, 25; August 1, 8
The first lecturer is Pamela Lyon, who completed a PhD at the Australian National University in 2006 with a thesis that tested the Buddhist proposition that all sentient beings have minds, using contemporary scientific evidence. This work was directly inspired by study of the 12 Links of Dependent Origination at the Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath.
The course presents the 12 Links according to the Gelukpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism but within the context of current science (e.g., physics, biology, psychology, neuroscience). The effectiveness of this Buddhist teaching is nowhere more clearly demonstrated than in its consilience with knowledge emerging from the sciences right now.

Every first and third Saturday at Buddha House: 2.30 pm to 4 pm
This will suit those who might be interested in the meaning of those very foreign words we recite together at the beginning and at the end of every teaching of our dear Geshe Pema Tsering. We will also be going through some other key words that, I hope, will allow students to at least recognise which topic the Geshe is approaching at a given time.

6 pm Wednesdays - FREE The only way to bring our intellectual understanding of the teachings to a deeper level of knowing is through our practice. In the Deity practice we use visualisations of the Buddha or an aspect of the Buddha in order to create the causes for our own enlightenment, and we recite mantras, prescribed syllables, to protect the mind from our attachment, anger, ignorance and so forth. During the month we rotate between different deity practices.
