The single greatest tool that we can all access to lives is paying attention, or the cultivation of conscious awareness, which Buddhists call “mindfulness.” Mindfulness is how we connect to the reality of “what is.” When we are fully mindful, we are vividly aware of precisely what is happening, when it is happening. When we are mindful, we are better able to see the reality of the situation. This is called clear vision. When we are mindful, we have greater mastery over our lives. When we are mindful, we find greater joy in the small moment-by-moment pleasures of life; we are more present, less absentminded. We can savor life and plumb into its depths rather than merely wading in the shallows. “Day of Mindfulness” is an opportunity to deepen our meditation practice and mindfulness through sessions of mindfulness alternating between sitting and walking, supplemented with meditations on loving-kindness, rejoicing, and forgiving and ending with a group discussion. There will be a short talk on subjects associated with meditation but the day's emphasis is on practice. Noble silence will be observed throughout the day. “Day of Mindfulness” is held one Saturday or Sunday every month. Everyone is welcome but should have at least previously attended Learn to Meditate classes or some equivalent.
Please bring a plate of vegetarian food to share for lunch.
