Workshop - Working with Anger Print E-mail

9 am - 4 pm, Saturday May 31 and Sunday June 1
geshelajamyangjampa_gendun With Geshe pema Tsering, Ven Jamyang & Jampa Gendun

Buddhism has been called a science of the mind, and many of those who practise it say the Buddha was like a skilful therapist who taught practical methods for dealing with disturbing attitudes, negative emotions and daily life problems. Buddhism, of course, goes beyond the scope of psychotherapy and differs from it in some significant ways. Nevertheless, like psychology, it deals with the human mind and emotions and strives to create happier human beings and a better society.

From the Buddhist perspective the greatest obstacle to individual health, happiness and a better society is the anger within our own minds. At the personal level anger binds us to immediate and long-term sufferings and destroys our relationship with others. And at the social level anger splits people into factions, causing them to strive for aims at cross-purposes to each other and thereby fueling the many conflicts in the world. As His Holiness the Dalai Lama has said, "As a destructive force there is nothing as strong as anger."

This weekend workshop will explore the nature of anger through talks, discussions, exercises and meditations. It will present a variety of practical methods for subduing and even preventing anger, not by changing what is happening externally, but by framing anger differently. No matter what our religion or whether we have any religion at all, learning to work with our anger is effective for everyone seeking personal happiness and world peace.

With Jampa Gendun and Ven. Jamyang. This weekend will also include one talk by Geshe Pema Tsering.

Facility fee for the weekend: $100 waged, $90 concession, $80 members
